Before buying cameras, the question isn't “which”, but “how many and where”. Putting up too many is throwing money away; too few leaves blind spots just where it matters. This guide helps you work it out for your business, with no jargon.
How to work it out (the simple rule)
One camera covers a specific area well: an entrance, a bar, a till, an aisle. Count the points you really want to watch and there's your number. It's not about square metres, but about hot spots: entrances, payment, storeroom and areas with no direct line of sight.
For a small bar or café
Usually 2-4 cameras: one at the entrance, one over the bar or the till and one or two in the room. A 4-camera kit is plenty. See the camera kits for bars and restaurants.
For a restaurant with a kitchen and terrace

For a shop or store

For a supermarket or self-service

Fixed or motorised (PTZ)?
Fixed ones always watch the same point (till, entrance): perfect for what matters. Motorised PTZ ones move and zoom to cover large areas (a big room, a car park). The usual thing is to combine: fixed at the critical points and a PTZ for the large area.
Don't forget the recording
The cameras record on an NVR recorder with a hard drive or on a high-endurance microSD card (normal ones fail recording 24 h).
