In a shop you're not robbed at night by forcing the door. You're robbed by day, with the shop open, right in front of you. And you almost never notice at the time: you find out when you do the stocktake and discover twelve units missing that nobody sold.
Shoplifting is small, constant and invisible. These cameras are designed for that, not for heist films.
Where the stock is lost in a shop
The blind spots
Every shop has them: the far end of the aisle, the corner behind the column, the nook you can't see from the counter. Whoever steals in shops spots them in thirty seconds, before you do. A well-set-up system starts by identifying those spots, not by putting pretty cameras at the entrance.
The till
Returns that never happened, discounts nobody authorised, sales that aren't recorded. A camera aimed at the till, with the time synced to your POS, lets you cross every payment with its video. It's the quickest way to know whether the shortfall is an error or something else.
The stockroom and back room
The area where the stock comes in and where there are no customers. Few people and a lot of value: simple maths. A camera on the stockroom door is usually the second most worthwhile after the till one.
The entrance
Not so much to catch anyone as to have the face. When theft is repeated —and it almost always is— what helps is being able to identify whoever comes back.
Fitting rooms: forbidden, no ifs
We say it clearly because we're asked constantly. You cannot put cameras inside a fitting room. Not one, not switched off, not "just in case". Nor in toilets or changing rooms. It's a serious offence and there's no exception no matter how much you're being robbed there.
What you can do is aim at the access corridor to the fitting rooms: who goes in, with how many garments and with how many they come out. It's legal and it's where it's really resolved.
What the law requires in premises open to the public
- Visible sign before entering. With the controller identified, the purpose and where to exercise your rights. A generic bargain-shop sign doesn't comply.
- No public thoroughfare. The shop window inwards, yes. The pavement, no.
- Deletion within a month, unless the recording serves to prove an offence.
- If you have employees, you must inform them and their representatives beforehand.

Fixed or motorised?
It depends on the shape of your premises, not the budget:
- Fixed — to cover a specific point that doesn't move: the till, the door, the stockroom. They always watch the same thing and don't get distracted.
- Motorised PTZ with AI — they rotate 360º and follow the person who enters the frame on their own. For large areas and long aisles: one covers what three fixed ones would.
The usual thing in a supermarket is to mix: fixed at tills and entrances, motorised on the floor.
How many for your shop?
- Small shop — 2: till and entrance.
- Shop with stockroom — 4: till, entrance, floor and stockroom.
- Supermarket or medium-sized floor — 8, combining fixed at tills with motorised in aisles.
Frequently asked questions
Is it any use putting up fake cameras?
Little and badly. Whoever steals in shops tells them apart, and the day something happens you've got no footage. A real camera pays off more than four fake ones.
Can I use the recording to report a theft?
Yes. If the recording proves an offence you can keep it beyond the usual month and make it available to the authorities. That's why quality matters: a blurry black-and-white image identifies no one.
Can I aim at the shop window?
Inwards, yes. What you can't do is record the pavement or what happens in the street.
Can it be viewed from several shops at once?
Yes. If you have several premises, you see them all from the same app by switching site.
Do I need a recorder or will a card do?
With two cameras a card will do. From four onwards, an NVR recorder: searching camera by camera from your phone is unworkable when you're in a hurry.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. You pay once and the footage is yours.
