You arrive in the morning, see something's off and go straight to the recorder. You look for the time of the incident... and there's nothing. Black screen, blurry image or, simply, the system switched off. It's a very frustrating situation. And more common than it seems. Almost always, the problem isn't the camera — it's how the system is set up.
Why didn't it record?
- The drive was full. The recorder overwrote the old footage before you could see it. It happens when the storage isn't sized properly.
- Motion detection failed. If the sensitivity isn't set right, there are areas the system ignores. It records, but not when it should.
- The resolution was too low. It recorded, yes — but what it recorded is no use for identifying anyone. Below 3MP, the images have no real value.
What do I do now?
Don't touch the recorder. Any tampering can invalidate the footage as evidence.
Call the Police or Civil Guard before doing anything else. They know how to extract evidence properly.
Note the exact time range of the incident — they'll ask for it for the report.
Check the venue's other cameras, even from another angle.
Once it's in the authorities' hands, it's time to rethink the system. Because a camera that isn't set up properly is exactly the same as having no camera.
